These assessments are provided in the context of employees whose health is impacting on their ability to work or on whom their work is impacting on their health. This can manifest itself either in continuing or intermittent sickness absence or poor performance. Fitness for work assessments are also used in the context of changing jobs within an organisation. A fitness for work assessment may also be required under law e.g. fitness to drive, aviation medicals, etc.
